I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers。Chickenology is a beautiful illustrated book all about chickens。 This book is great not just for children but for adults too and has a wealth of information。 I never realised how many different breeds of chickens there are or different feathers。 I'd love to collect the different feather types in a scrapbook! This delightful book is a 3。5 for me and a wonderfully fun tribute to chickens。 There is text that provides an introduction to these clever birds and the wide variety of chickens, and there are also colorful illustrations and minimal text concerning their eggs and all the parts of chickens。 Readers may be especially interested in learning about how humans and chickens coexist and how more and more frequently, chickens are used as emotional support animals。 Chickens are a lot smarter than many hu This delightful book is a 3。5 for me and a wonderfully fun tribute to chickens。 There is text that provides an introduction to these clever birds and the wide variety of chickens, and there are also colorful illustrations and minimal text concerning their eggs and all the parts of chickens。 Readers may be especially interested in learning about how humans and chickens coexist and how more and more frequently, chickens are used as emotional support animals。 Chickens are a lot smarter than many humans give them credit for, even being able to count。 The book features various chicken eggs on the endpapers and a heartfelt celebration of these creatures with a page highlighting various egg dishes。 I was intrigued by the soft beauty of the Silkies, the patterns featured on the Wyandottes and on the Exchequer and Barred Leghorns, both from the same breed but with a very different look。 The book also describes the particular needs chickens have for food and shelter and health concerns。 As the back of the book states, this enthusiastic examination of these nifty birds may prompt many readers to want to raise a few chickens of their own。 If nothing else, it will challenge many assumptions about chickens and leave readers with a new appreciation for them as so much more than a potential food source。 I remember being mesmerized as a youngster by the color plates in the dictionary that showed the variety of eggs, and this book reminds me of those features, definitely child-friendly but interesting to adults as well。 。。。more

Enjoyed this book which offers a great deal of information about Chicken breeds, habits, attributes and lore。 I must admit it made me want to keep chickens for pets and eggs, especially the Silkie whose feathers look and feel like cat fur! The text style is informational with clear, cogent descriptions, along with fun facts。 The illustrations are delightfully colorful and fun, giving the chickens lots of personality。 I think most children would love learning about chickens in this book as it is Enjoyed this book which offers a great deal of information about Chicken breeds, habits, attributes and lore。 I must admit it made me want to keep chickens for pets and eggs, especially the Silkie whose feathers look and feel like cat fur! The book begins with endpapers featuring illustrations of dozens of chicken eggs of different sizes, shapes, and colors。 The entire book is filled with images, diagrams, and charts that are beautifully hand-drawn and clearly-captioned。 The information is presented in bite size pieces, reminding me of the 1970s Provensens’ Maple Hill Farm books。 There are even beautiful tapeworms, poultry lice, and Salmonella bacteria! The interesting facts, rich technical vocabulary, and eye-catching artwork make this a wonderful piece of illustrated nonfiction for six- to ten-year-olds。Richie Partington, MLISRichie's Picks http://richiespicks。pbworks。comhttps://www。facebook。com/richiespicks/https://twitter。com/richiespicks richiepartington@gmail。com 。。。more

I didn't realize there was even this much to know about chickens - I mean, I grew up out in the country, and I know that chickens come in different colors and such but, honestly, that's the extent of my chicken knowledge。 This book, while aimed for a younger crowd, is extremely detailed and informative - it's a great introduction to chickens if you, like me, lack any real knowledge of chickens, besides knowing that they're delicious and they make eggs (also delicious)。 I didn't realize there was even this much to know about chickens - I mean, I grew up out in the country, and I know that chickens come in different colors and such but, honestly, that's the extent of my chicken knowledge。 This book, while aimed for a younger crowd, is extremely detailed and informative - it's a great introduction to chickens if you, like me, lack any real knowledge of chickens, besides knowing that they're delicious and they make eggs (also delicious)。 。。。more

I really thought that there were just two or three kinds of combs, I didn’t expect there to be that many。 So I did what every person would do when they have questions these days (especially when it is November and the libraries are closed and also not nearby), go to Google。 There I found a wealth of information with photographs。 And then I could believe!
